The VSA MA Student of the Month award celebrates the accomplishments of students who have exhibited significant artistic, social or academic growth throughout their participation in the VSA MA residency program.

Abebe and his classmates participated in a visual art program with Art Teacher, Mark Johnson, and VSA MA Teaching Artist, Jessica Bonnell. Through the program, students learn a variety of arts techniques related to academic content. Abebe is a second grade student at the Henderson Inclusion Elementary School. He is a bright, active, and creative young boy. For this assignment, students chose four different emotions then illustrated portraits that expressed their chosen emotions. In his piece, Abebe did a great job altering the angle of the eyebrows, size of the eyes, and shape of the mouth. His attention to detail and sensitivity to emotion is apparent in his work.

Abebe received his Student of the Month certificate and a book, "The Dot " by Peter Reynolds. His family, teachers, classmates, principal and teachers are very proud of his accomplishments! Congratulations Abebe!
