Senior at Lesley University, studying expressive arts therapy
Hometown: Rock Hill, SC
What are your favorite pastimes?
"I love to watch documentaries! I also enjoy spontaneous trips to IKEA and reading books in one sitting."
If you could be a cartoon character, who would you be?
"I would be Larry the Cucumber from VeggieTales. He gets to do all the ridiculous fun songs and be a superhero. He's also one of the taller vegetables and I've always wanted to be tall."
You are trapped on an island. What three items do you want to have with you?
"A Leatherman, my pillow, and a SkyMall magazine: a multifunction tool, proper sleep and insanely "useless" products will definitely keep me going in the wild."
Do you have any uncommon talents or quirks?
"I can pogo stick and I have a pretty spot on impersonation of a llama."
What brings you to VSA?
"I grew up around the residents of Holy Angels in Belmont, NC. In high school, I started volunteering there in the Creative Arts Department. I loved it so much, I decided to pursue expressive arts therapy and focus on working with people with significant disabilities. During my internship at The Carter School last fall, I discovered the VSA Massachusetts. I couldn't imagine a better organization for me to intern with and I am super excited to see what this opportunity brings!"
What are you doing during your internship?
"I am doing a few things at VSA this semester. I am working with the Social Media Committee to manage Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest. I will also be working with a teaching artist at Condon Elementary School. We will be using music in the early childhood classrooms and including students from the developmental daycare."
