Silent Rhythms has partnered with MetaMovements and Kerry Thompson (pictured above) to provide two ASL-interpreted workshops on Latin dancing. The workshops will be held December 1 and 8, 2012 at Blackstone Community Center, which is the building next to where Salsa in the Park Summer was held. After the workshops there will be a dance social so you can practice what you've learned or watch other folks dance.
The details are:
When:
December 1st and 8th, 2012
11:00 am (check in / sign in)
11:30 am (dance lessons)
12:15 to 1:30 (dance social)
Where:
Blackstone Community Center (5th floor)
50 West Brookline Street
Boston, MA 02118 (between Washington Street and Shawmut Ave in South End)
(near Silver and Orange line MBTA stops)
What:
Learn how to dance bachata, cha-cha, rueda, salsa, and merengue! All levels are welcome so don't worry if you have absolutely zero experience plus this is a great community event so you can bring the family too or your significant other that does not really want to dance but would like to watch.
Who:
Silent Rhythms is a program for the deaf and hard of hearing that makes learning how to dance fun, easy and accessible! Lessons are taught by Kerry Thompson who has been a Latin dancer for a number of years performing in New York City, Paris, Miami, Stamford, and Boston. At a young age, Kerry was diagnosed as profoundly deaf then diagnosed a few years later with Retinitis Pigmentosa.
