    Reel Abilities - Disabilities Film Festival

    Reel Abilities - Disabilities Film Festival comes to Boston January 31 - February 5, 2013 with 9 international films about people with disabilities that will rock your world.

    Mary and Max: Claymation about a lonely 8-year-old outcast from near Melbourne, who becomes pen pals with an eccentric, but caring 44-year-old Jewish New Yorker with Asperger's.  Jan. 31, 7:00 p.m., West Newton Cinema.

    The Straight Line: French sports drama about a blind runner, who trains with a former athlete with a criminal past.  In French with English option captions.  Feb. 2, 7:00 p.m., MFA.  Audio described.

    Body and Soul: This powerful and uplifting documentary follows three young Mozambicans with physical disabilities.  Their resilient daily lives reveal their physical, psychological and emotional challenges.  In Portuguese with English open captions.  Feb. 3, noon, MFA.

    Me, Too: Gripping Spanish drama about a recent college grad with Down syndrome and his bond with his lively workmate.  In Spanish with English open captions.  Feb. 3, 2:15 p.m., MFA and Feb. 4, 3:00 and 7:00 p.m., Cardinal Cushing Centers, Hanover.

    Mabul (The Flood): Yoni studies his bar mitzvah portion amidst a troubled family in this Israeli film.  Life gets complicated when older brother Tomer, who is autistic, returns.  Note: mild sexual content.  In Hebrew with English open captions.  Feb. 4, 6:30 p.m., JCC Newton.

    Shorts Program: Three short films, Anything You Can Do, about two youths – one wheelchair bound – in competition with each other; Aphasia, a comical docudrama about an actor, who suffers a stroke; and I Don’t Want to Go Back Alone, about a teen boy, who is blind, with complicated male/female relationships.  Feb. 4, 6:00 p.m., Scibelli Enterprise Center, Springfield

    Princess: Cheerful, delusional Anna lives in a Finnish psychiatric hospital believing she is an English royal.  Can “Princess” escape a dangerous lobotomy?  In Finnish with English open captions.  Tuesday, Feb. 5, 7:00 p.m., West Newton Cinema.

    Reel Abilities Boston is presented by The Boston Jewish Film Festival.

    Tickets: $10 for Mary and Max, The Straight Line and Princess.  Body & Soul and Me, Too at the MFA are $4.  Other films are free.  All films are open captioned in English.
