Williamstown Theatre Festival is excited to announce a partnership with the Rosemary Kennedy Internship Initiative / VSA that will fund scholarships for young theatre artists aged 18-25 with disabilities. These scholarships will allow multiple young artists to participate in our renowned Apprentice Program this summer at no cost to them. As an educator, you are invited to nominate a young artist from your community for this program. Deadline to apply is April 19th, 2013.
The WTF Apprentice Program provides aspiring actors with a hands-on, fully immersive introduction to the world of professional theatre, for the duration of a summer season at the Tony Award-winning Williamstown Theatre Festival. Apprentices have the opportunity to audition for Festival productions and participate in the numerous projects and special events. Apprentices are involved with every facet of the Festival, from run crew to hanging lights; from greeting audiences to assisting with our programming for kids. Apprentices also take part in a unique classroom-learning experience, comprised of a Shakespeare and Improvisation curriculum taught by our resident faculty, and weekly master classes with renowned visiting artists -- past participants include Nathan Lane, Kate Burton, Bill Irwin, Cherry Jones, Alex Timbers, and Bebe Neuwirth. In short, the WTF Apprentice Program provides a unique bridge from educational to professional theatre, challenging its young artists inside and out of the classroom, on stage, and behind the scenes.
Thanks to the generous support from the Rosemary Kennedy Internship Initiative, we are able to offer several Apprentice Program scholarships to young artists with disabilities.
If you would like to nominate an exceptional young artist with a disability between the ages of 18-25 for the WTF Apprentice Program, please do the following:
- E-mail WTF Company Manager Liz Mahan at lmahan@wtfestival.org.
- Write the CANDIDATE'S NAME and "VSA" in the subject line.
- Attach the candidate's resume.
- Provide one to two paragraphs detailing how you know the candidate, their age and experience level in theatre, and a brief description of their disability.
- Please note that a disability is defined as a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities, as stated by the Americans with Disabilities Act. A disability may be visible (such as a person who is blind or uses a wheelchair) or invisible (such a learning or developmental disability).
- The deadline for nominations is April 19, 2013. (Note that the general Apprentice Program application deadline has passed.)
Candidates may be asked to provide additional application materials. Further information regarding the Williamstown Theatre Festival Apprentice Program can be found HERE. Please direct any questions or comments to me (lsavia@wtfestival.org) or our Company Manager, Liz Mahan (lmahan@wtfestival.org).
