    Meet the Intern: Hannah Hanssens-Reed

I am from Philadelphia and I'm working on my Ed.M. in Arts in Education (at Harvard's Graduate School of Education).

    What are your favorite pastimes?
"I love to draw, paint, read, and experiment in the kitchen.  I am also an avid hiker and love to be outdoors."

If you could be a cartoon character, who would you be?
"I would love to be Matilda, the illustrated version, from the book by Roald Dahl."

You are trapped on an island.  What three items do you want to have with you?
"A set of paints & brush, a machete, and a hammock."

Do you have any uncommon talents or quirks?
"My thumbs are two completely different sizes and shapes."

    What brings you to VSA?
"I am very excited to have the chance to work in an environment that is so passionate about the arts and building community through the exploration of creativity.  I am eager to learn about how arts is implemented in educational settings, and how it is a wonderful tool for inclusion.  And the staff and people of VSA are so passionate and dedicated to what they do, that I feel really inspired being around them and listening to their stories of work through the organization."

What are you doing during your internship?
"I will be helping with the Parkolation Project and supporting the COOL Schools Program this year!"
