Join us at HUBweek to explore the future being built in Boston at the intersections of art, science, and technology.  HUBweek will kick off with events taking place all across the city, and land on Boston's City Hall Plaza as it transforms into The HUB presented by Liberty Mutual Insurance.  Filled with 80 shipping containers and 6 geodesic domes, The HUB will feature a multi-day ideas festival, live arts experiences, a massive startup showcase, exhibits, parties, and more.

VSA Massachusetts is working with HUBweek to introduce several area artists with disabilities to the event.  These will be multi-art and multi-sensory performances that will engage the audience in a creative experience of shared humanity through the prism of the experience of disability.  The VSA performances at HUBweek are part of the Immersion Art Program, sponsored by Union Point, a new city rising 12 miles south of Boston.

Jon Sarkin is a visual artist and a spoken word performance artist.  He will work with videographer and drummer Emile Doucette and lead guitarist Dan King.  Their performance, Unchained Brain, is a multi-media exploration of the visual art Jon Sarkin produces in the endless creative flow created by damage to his brain caused by a stroke.  Jon will tell his story in a free form rap accompanied by a collection of images ranging from Jon's studio work, to his brain scans, and Jon's performance with indie band Guster.

Unchained Brain is produced in a format developed by VSA Massachusetts called "Inclusive by Design" that employs American Sign Language, captioning and audio description to create a multi-sensory experience that anyone can participate in.

Unchained Brain will be presented on Friday night (10/13/2017) Doors to the Red Dome open at 6 PM, the performance starts at 6:30.

Keith P. Jones and Soul Touchin' Experiences will present a version of "Krip-Hop Nation: The Crossroads Experience" with Leroy More.  Krip-Hop is a movement demonstrating alternate arrangements by which hip hop artists with disabilities can communicate.  The movement uses Hip Hop music as a means of expression, providing a compelling window onto the contemporary experience of disability.

Krip-Hop will be performed on Saturday evening (10/14/2017) from 6:30 to 8 PM, doors to the Blue Dome open at 6:00 PM.

Tony DeBlois, is a celebrated musical savant who has amazed audiences across the globe and has been called "The eighth wonder of the world".  Tony will perform on keyboard some of the over 8,000 songs he's committed to memory.  This 41-year-old pianist from Randolph, MA is blind, autistic and has Savant Syndrome.  He has been playing the piano since age two.  He was the subject of the 1997 CBS made for TV, Movie of the week "Journey of the Heart" which was inspired by actual events in Tony's life.  Additionally, he has appeared on 2 Catholic Global Showcase Specials (2001), The Learning Channel's "Uncommon Genius", Strange Science "Unusual People", and "Understanding the Mysteries of Memory".  He is the recipient of numerous awards, among them are Boston Celtics "Hero Among Us" (2003), Chou, Ta-Kuan Cultural and Educational Foundations Global "Love of Life Award" (2002), the Faith and Family Foundation Outstanding Achievement Award 2000, the coveted Reynolds Society Achievement Award (1996), the Foundation for Exceptional Children's prestigious "Yes, I Can" Award for 1993 and the Panasonic Sponsored, VSA arts Itzhak Perlman Award (1992).
