I am a music educator. As an artist, I use music to help my students express themselves, while learning new skills that will allow them to create something enjoyable for the rest of their life. Music is for everyone and anyone can participate. I believe that every student has the right to have music a part of their education whether or not they pursue it after school. I believe that by engaging in music, learners can express themselves with interacting positively with others.
What is your own arts practice?
"Music! Principally French horn, ukulele, and voice."
My experience doing this includes . . .
"I did my undergraduate training at The University of Texas at Austin (Hook 'Em), then taught a variety of learners for 4 years in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. Now I'm a second year graduate student at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee. I love singing with friends and playing with community ensembles."
What grades and art form you will be using in your COOL residency?
"During my COOL residency I will be working with students ages 14-22 learning music."
What do you hope your students gain from arts experiences?
"I hope I'm able to engage students minds through nontraditional paths of self expression while exposing my students to a variety of musical forms, broadening their horizons and building confidence in themselves."
What do you hope teachers gain from arts experiences?
"I hope the teacher gains a reliable partner to collaborate with to create the most inclusive environments possible, I hope the student teachers gain confidence their own ability as educators, and I hope paraprofessionals gain confidence in their own musical abilities. Everyone deserves to have a musical life if they desire to educators and students alike."

After attaining her undergraduate degree at the University of Texas at Austin Alexandra returned to her home in the Dallas/Ft. She packed up and moved to Boston to study with Dr. Rhoda Bernard at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee. Alexandra first got involved with VSA last summer when she interned at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in the department of VSA and Accessibility. Upon returning to Boston she was thrilled to work with VSA Massachusetts as one of their COOL School Teachers.
